Remember Your Priorities

Sometimes we get caught with the things we are doing at present that we forgot why we are doing them. We get easily distracted and all of a sudden we are too far from where we wanted to be in the first place or we get lost.

We should learn to stop and think about what we are doing and why are we doing it from time to time so we don't loose track. By knowing our priorities we can sort out what we need and what we want and what is incidental.

Typhoon Ondoy Disaster

This typhoon, Typhoon Ondoy, has been the worst Metro Manila has ever seen since 1968. With just 6 hours of continuous rain 34.1 millimeter of rain flooded most areas in the region including some of the places that doesn't get flooded before. The NCR region where Metro Manila is located with 17 cities which includes Quezon City, Pasig, Marikina, Manila, and neighboring provinces such as Cainta, San Mateo and Aurora, Region 1, 2 and 3 is now under the state of calamity.

We were not so much prepared for this. If it would have been an ordinary rain we would be happy to do our usual rain harvesting with our rain barrels. But this is no ordinary rain. Water levels have reached critical level in dams surrounding the region and flood water have eaten up 3 story houses already.

Some people would have been resourceful enough to convert rain water barrels as a flotation device to be able to evacuate flood devastated areas but because the flood water rose too quickly nobody was able to do anything and most were trapped on their rooftop just to keep at least part of their body dried. I hope by tomorrow the flood has subside and that the death toll of 60 as of press time does not rise. Our fellowmen will need food, blanket and clothes, so we will be needing the help of anyone who can.

When To Let Go

When you no longer see eye to eye...
When you no longer grow together...
When it's an effort to do things you used to enjoy doing...
When you can no longer find your smile...
Then it's time to let go and move on.

Solving A Problem

A problem isn't a problem unless you can solve it. If you can't find a solution to it then it's not a problem but a situation in your life you have to accept. Instead of going against the flow you should accept the situation and do your best to live it. Resistance is futile. It will only drain your energy and everything positive you have in your life. You don't need anymore frustration in your life that you already have. If you've done your best to reach a certain goal and fail and you did it as many times as you could then it means it's not meant for you. God has other plans for you so just let go and accept. Do not resist. Sometimes what we want is not meant for us.

The Butterfly Principle

"The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly." Exodus 14:8

Overprotective parents do their children a great injustice. The caterpillar that lies inside the cocoon will never become the beautiful butterfly if someone cuts open the cocoon prematurely. It is the struggle itself that allows the butterfly to emerge as a strong, new creature of nature.

God understands how necessary this process is. That is why we are allowed to experience difficult, often life-changing events. He even orchestrates them-all for our benefit. What the Israelites thought was a cruel joke when Pharaoh sent troops to pursue them after they had been freed and penned against the shore of the Red Sea became the stage for the most publicized miracle of all time-the parting of the Red Sea. Generation after generation has heard this incredible story of deliverance. God puts us against the "Red Seas" in order to show His power in and through us. If we do not know God can deliver, then we can never learn to trust Him. Circumstances that go beyond our capabilities of solving them place us at God's complete mercy. This is how He likes it.

Do not fear the calamity that comes your way. If you are faithful to Him in the test, you will see God's power manifested like never before. Just as the Israelites were able to sing a song of deliverance, you too will have your own testimony of the Lord's faithfulness; and you will be able to recall it for others to build your faith and theirs.

Better Safe Than Sorry

A couple of days ago I saw this horrible video of a nanny and one of the kids left for her care. I guess the parents were worried that something bad was happening to their kids while they are away and so they installed this surveillance cam.

I was so shocked to see how this nanny physically abused the child. I think the kid was 3 or 4 years old. The nanny kicked the child on the back and the kid dropped on the floor face down. She wasn't even contented with that she kicked the girl again on the face and then jumped on its back while squeezing the little girls ears. She kicked her so many times I don't know what permanent damage it will cause on the child. It was the scariest sight a parent could ever see. Good thing the parents immediately installed a surveillance cam and prevented the worst case scenario ever.

Success Flatters

Don't let other peoples preference and judgment stop you from doing what you want for yourself. What works for them may not actually work for you. However if their opinion is more important to you than what you feel then do it.

Many of us begin our careers with the goal of achieving success. If we haven't entered our work as a result of our real calling, we will eventually face a chasm of deep frustration and emptiness. Success flatters but does not provide a lasting sense of purpose and fulfillment. So often we enter careers with wrong motives-money, prestige, and even pressure from parents or peers. Failing to match our work with our giftedness and calling is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. If that happens over an extended period, a person crashes.
Significance comes from fulfilling the God-given purpose for which you were made. Ask Him to confirm this in your own life.

How To Stay Young

Age is just numbers, but if you don't take care of your health and wellbeing your body will tell you how old you are. Here's some nice tips you can use to stay young and defy age.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers.
This includes age, weight and height.
Let the doctors worry about them.
that's why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(keep this in mind if you are one of
those grouches)

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts,
gardening, whatever. Never let the brain
get idle.

"An idle mind is the devil's workshop."
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5.. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.

And if you have a friend who makes
you laugh, spend lots and lots of time
with HIM/HER.

6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us
our entire life, is ourself.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes,
music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can
improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next
county, to a foreign country, but NOT to
where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that
you love them at every opportunity!

Protect Me From Arrogance

Slander, the false statement that maliciously ruins reputations, does not stalk alone. Its associate is the heart-attitude of arrogance. Arrogant people think that they have the right to exalt themselves by speaking ill of others. Wherever you see one of these ugly companions, the other is lurking nearby; both are dangerous and neither can be trusted. There is no limit to the authorities which such people will try to topple by their bad-speaking. As with every evil act, there is no satisfaction in being 'a little bad', and without repentance, sin will escalate until it engulfs its perpetrators.

Almighty God. Although it would be nice to think that everybody around me is reasonable and trustworthy, I know that is not so. I now pray for those whose arrogance seems unlimited, and who have no fear of anybody or even of Your authority. Please bring them to repentance and faith, before they face Your judgement. And please give wisdom and courage to my spiritual leaders so that they may guard the flock against the arrogant slander of those who seek to gain influence in the church. For Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord God. Thank You for alerting me to those parts of my character that may not yet be fully given over to You. Please help me to see myself as you see me, and help me to choose not to follow the corruption that is in the world, nor to have a rebellious and proud heart. Where these things have become part of my character, help me to repent and choose to follow Jesus. I also pray for my friends and colleagues who have little idea of the judgement that awaits them; please bring them to salvation and enable me to be a good witness to the transforming power of Christ. In His Name. Amen.

Knowing How To Decide

Do you decide with your head or with your heart? If your heart says you were right but your head says you are not did you make the wrong decision or what?

"Rightly or wrongly ..." a friend was heard to say, "I made the decision". He implied that it was better to make any decision than not to decide at all. Alas too many businesses get trapped by decisions that they were not ready to make, and regret afterwards.

Of course, it is important to make decisions, but they need to be the right choices. God always makes the right choice. He knows how to judge between what is good and evil, right and wrong. And therefore His judgements are always 'safe' (as our legal friends would say); in other words, there is no possibility of any valid objection, because He is always right.

Peter wants his readers, Christians who would suffer for the Name of Jesus, to understand that they will be vindicated in the end. Taking the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all the wickedness they represented, (cf Gen 19:1-29) Peter says that God knew how to rescue Lot and punish his neighbours. This is important. There is no suggestion that Lot had any idea that God had him and the city in such sharp focus. And however much the wrong attitudes and actions around him must have grieved Lot, he could not have imagined how God would sort it all out. But God did.

Some of our doubting, in situations that seem insoluble, stems from forgetting that God knows how to decide and separate the fate of the godly from that of the ungodly. If we ignore this truth, we will either be panicked into sorting it out ourselves, or despair because we cannot see how God can do anything, or end up joining the wicked (at least in thought) because we blur the distinction which God sees very sharply. If we are to live godly lives in a wicked world, we need to be certain that God knows all about it, and that in the end, He will know how to rescue the righteous, and bring the reward of punishment to the unrighteous. So, do not falter or alter your course away from Jesus! God always gets it right! And, please share these verses with your Christian friends and colleagues - without this encouragement we can all be tempted away from trusting the Lord when life is tough.

Prayer: Dear Lord. Thank You that You really do know how to make the right decisions. And also that You will rescue those who love You. I believe that you will do this at the end of time, but I am grateful that Your hand of kindness and protection is upon me now, as well. Please forgive me when I doubt that You know what You are doing. Help me to trust that You will always do the right thing, at the right time. For Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Happiness does not heal, but happiness protects against falling ill.

If everyone could stay in an upbeat attitude then I guess we will all live longer and healthier. Life's stresses push us to do things that we think will relieve us but in the end they become a burden than real help.

"Happiness does not lengthen the life of seriously ill people, but it does prolong the life of healthy people. Happiness appears to protect against falling ill. One of the mechanisms behind that effect seems to be that chronic unhappiness causes stress, which on its turn reduces immune response."
