My Brother

Here is a story sent to me via e-mail, it's a read but worth it. Here it goes:

I was born in a secluded village on a mountain. Day by day, my parents plowed the yellow dry soil with their backs towards the sky. I have a brother who is 3 years younger than me.

I wanted to buy a handkerchief, which all girls around me seemed to have. So, one day I stole 50 cents from my father's drawer. Father had discovered about the stolen money right away.

He made me and my younger brother kneel against the wall as he held a bamboo stick in his hand.

"Who stole the money?" he asked.

I was stunned, too afraid to talk. Neither of us admitted to the fault, so he said, "Fine, if nobody wants to admit, you two should be beaten!"

He lifted up the bamboo stick.

Suddenly, my younger brother gripped father's hand and said," Dad, I was the one who did it!"

The long stick smacked my brother's back repeatedly.

Father was so angry that he kept on whipping my brother until he lost his breath.

After that, he sat down on our stone bed and scolded my brother, "You have learned to steal from your own house now. What other embarrassing things will you be possibly doing in the future? You should be beaten to death, you shameless thief!"

That night, my mother and I hugged my brother. His body was full of wounds from the beating but he never shed a single tear.

In the middle of the night, all of sudden, I cried out loudly.

My brother covered my mouth with his little hand and said, " Sis, now don't cry anymore. Everything has happened."

I still hate myself for not having enough courage to admit what I did.

Years gone by, but the incident still seemed like it just happened yesterday.

I will never forget my brother's expression when he protected me.

That year, my brother was 8 years old and I was 11 years old.

When my brother was in his last year of secondary school, he was accepted in an upper secondary school in the central. At the same time, I was accepted into a university in the province.

That night, father squatted in the yard, smoking, packet by packet.

I could hear him ask my mother, "Both of our children, they have good results. Very good results."

Mother wiped off her tears and sighed," What is the use? How can we possibly finance both of them?"

At that time, my brother walked out, he stood in front of father and said,"Dad, I don't want to continue my study anymore, I have read enough books."

Father swung his hand and slapped my brother on his face.

"Why do you have a spirit so damn weak? Even if it means I have to beg for money on the streets, I will send you two to school until you have both finished your study!"

And then, he started to knock on every house in the village to borrow money.

I stuck out my hand as gently as I can to my brother's swollen face, and told him, "A boy has to continue his study; If not, he will not be able to overcome this poverty we are experiencing."

I, on the other hand, had decided not to further my study at the university.

Nobody knew that on the next day, before dawn, my brother left the house with a few pieces of worn-out clothes and a few dry beans. He sneaked to my side of the bed and left a note on my pillow; "Sis, getting into a university is not easy. I will go find a job and I will send money to you."

I held the note while sitting on my bed, and cried until I lost my voice.

That year, my brother was 17 years old; I was 20 years old.

With the money father borrowed from the whole village, and the money my brother earned from carrying cement on his back at a construction site, finally, I managed to get to the third year of my study in the university.

One day, while I was studying in my room, my roommate came in and told me, "There's a villager waiting for you outside!"

Why would there be a villager looking for me? I walked out, and I saw my brother from afar. His whole body was covered with dirt, dust, cement and sand. I asked him, "Why did you not tell my roommate that you are my brother?"

He replied with a smile," Look at my appearance. What will they think if they would know that I am your brother? Won't they laugh at you?"

I felt so touched, and tears filled my eyes. I swept away dirt and dust from my brother's body. And told him with a lump in my throat, " I don't care what people would say! You are my brother no matter what your appearance is?"

From his pocket, he took out a butterfly hair clip. He put it on my hair and said, "I saw all the girls in town are wearing it. So, I think you should also have one."

I could not hold back myself anymore. I pulled my brother into my arms and cried.

That year, my brother was 20 years old; I was 23 years old.

I noticed that the broken window was repaired the first time I brought my boyfriend home. The house was scrubbed cleaned.

After my boyfriend left, I danced like a little girl in front of my mother, "Mom, you didn't have to spend so much time cleaning the house!"

But she told me with a smile," It was your brother who went home early to clean the house. Didn't you see the wound on his hand? He hurt his hand while he was replacing the window."

I went into my brother's bedroom. Looking at his thin face, I felt like there are hundreds of needle pricked in my heart.

I applied some ointment on his wound and put a bandage on it, "Does it hurt? " I asked him.

"No, it doesn't hurt. You know, when at the construction site, stones keep falling on my feet . Even that could not stop me from working."

In the middle of the sentence, he stopped. I turned my back on him and tears rolled down my face.

That year, my brother was 23 years old; I was 26 years old.

After I got married, I lived in the city. Many times my husband invited my parents to come and live with us, but they didn't want.

They said, once they left the village, they wouldn't know what to do.

My brother agreed with them. He said, "Sis, you just take care of your parents-in-law. I will take care of mom and dad here."

My husband became the director of his factory. We asked my brother to accept the offer of being the manager in the maintenance department. But my brother rejected the offer. He insisted on working as a repairman instead for a start.

One day, my brother was on the top of a ladder repairing a cable, when he got electrocuted, and was sent to the hospital.

My husband and I visited him at the hospital. Looking at the white gypsum on his leg, I grumbled, "Why did you reject the offer of being a manager? Managers won't do something dangerous like that. Now look at you, You are suffering a serious injury. Why didn't you just listen to us?"

With a serious expression on his face, he defended his decision, "Think of brother-in-law. He just became the director, and I being uneducated, and would become a manager, what kind of rumors would fly around?"

My husband's eyes filled up with tears, and then I said, "But you lack in education only because of me!"

"Why do you talk about the past?" he said and then he held my hand.

That year, he was 26 years old and I was 29 years old.

My brother was 30 years old when he married a farmer girl from the village.

During the wedding reception, the master of ceremonies asked him, "Who is the one person you respect and love the most?"

Without even taking a time to think, he answered," My sister." He continued by telling a story I could not even remember.

"When I was in primary school, the school was in a different village. Everyday, my sister and I would walk for 2 hours to school and back home. One day, I lost the other pair of my gloves. My sister gave me one of hers.

She wore only one glove and she had to walk far. When we got home, her hands were trembling because of the cold weather that she could not even hold her chopsticks. From that day on, I swore that as long as I live, I would take care of my sister and will always be good to her."

Applause filled up the room. All guests turned their attention to me.

I found it hard to speak, "In my whole life, the one I would like to thank most is my brother,"

And in this happy occasion, in front of the crowd, tears were rolling down my face again.

I'm A Cat Person

In my lifetime I only owned 2 dogs that only lasted two weeks tops. One died because he was poisoned. The other died because I over reacted with its puppy fleas and gave it a major bath with a very strong flea prevention soap.

One thing about owning a dog that I hate are dog flea they can be really annoying and a real pests. Unlike cat fleas dog fleas can hide and live on walls and multiply and their bite can damage the skin real bad. That's one reason I choose a cat as a pet, they are easily manageable and not high maintenance.

S.H.O.E.S.

Ooopsy it's been awhile since I post my S.H.O.E.S. (Seven Heaven On Earth, seven things, events, places or whatever that I appreciate.)

1) I was so happy to see my daughter explored the Kids At Work and did not cry during their "field trip" at her school. I guess she was comfortable with kids like her in the place and with adults who understands her and her likes :) I am so proud of her! She was singing while trying to find her way out of the tunnels 20 feel high and I can't even see her!

2) My hunny is back home, he was discharged from the hospital and getting better now, just gaining back his lost weight!

3) Awesome and unexpected blessing last week and it was used for a great purpose. Thanks!

4) I won $50 from Evilwoobie's birthday bash!

5) Lotsa fun events this weekend, a bridal fair, a chocoluva seminar, parents empowerment seminar and my second parent teacher conference!

6) The Pag-ibig housing loan is finally on a positive move!

7) Summer is here! YAY! Despite the heat it means hit the beach!

Visit Pope John Paul II Birthplace

Lent is just a stone throw away and what best way we celebrate it but to do Visita Iglesia or hit the beach as this can be the hottest days here in the Philippines.

But I think I would like to spend my holy week in a different manner and the Auschwitz tours looks like a perfect option for me.

It's a tour around Poland, which is a dominant Catholic country where 94% of its 38.6 million population are Roman Catholic while 2 percent are Orthodox. It's also the birthplace of Pope John Paul II, whom I think is the best pope of all time for having introduced the World Youth Day.

The Pope's birthplace is near Krakow and I would like to take a tour there. This package tour by Escape2poland.com.uk are the best because all fees are included like the tour guide that will tell us about the wonderful establishments in Poland like this big twin-towered St Mary's Church (Kosciol Mariacki) founded in 14th century and not just the transport.

Snappy Comebacks To "Why aren't you married yet?"

1. You haven't asked yet.
2. I was hoping to do something meaningful with my life.
3. What? And spoil my great sex life?
4. Nobody would believe me in white.
5. Because I just love hearing this question.
6. Just lucky, I guess.
7. It gives my mother something to live for.
8. My fiancee is awaiting his/her parole.
9. I'm still hoping for a shot at Miss/Mr. America.
10. Do you know how hard it is to get two tickets to Miss Saigon?
11. I'm waiting until I get to be your age.
12. It didn't seem worth a blood test.
13. I already have enough laundry to do, thank you.
14. Because I think it would take all the spontaneity out of dating.
15. My co-op board doesn't allow spouses.
16. I'd have to forfeit my billion dollar trust fund.
17. They just opened a great singles bar on my block.
18. I wouldn't want my parents to drop dead from sheer happiness.
19. I guess it just goes to prove that you can't trust those voodoo doll rituals.
20. What? And lose all the money I've invested in running personal ads?
21. We really want to, but my lover's spouse just won't go for it.
22. I don't want to have to support another person on my paycheck.
23. Why aren't you thin?
24. I'm married to my career, although recently we have been considering a trial separation.
25. (Bonus reply for Single Mothers) Because having a husband and a child would be redundant.

Let It Go

I should learn to do the following:

There are people who can walk away from you.
And hear me when I tell you this!
When people can walk away from you: let them walk.

I don't want you to try to talk to another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk.
Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay. Let them go.

And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person, it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead
You've got to know when it's dead.
You've got to know when it's over.

Let me tell you something.
I've got the gift of good-bye.
It's the tenth spiritual gift,
I believe in good-bye.

It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay...Let them go!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to...LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains ... LET IT GO!!!
If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and see your worth... LET IT GO!!!
If someone has angered you ... LET IT GO!!!
If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge... LET IT GO!!!
If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction ... LET IT GO!!!
If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents... LET IT GO!!!
If you have a bad attitude... LET IT GO!!!
If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better... LET IT GO!!!
If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him... LET IT GO!!!
If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship.... LET IT GO!!!
If you keep trying to help someone who won't even try to help themselves... LET IT GO!!!
If you're feeling depressed and stressed ... LET IT GO!!!
If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying "take your hands off of it," then you need to... LET IT GO!!!

Let the past be the past.
Forget the former things.
GOD is doing a new thing for you!!!
LET IT GO!!!

Get Right or Get Left... think about it, and then LET IT GO!!!

Words From The Wise When Stressed

"When you find yourself stressed, ask yourself one question:
Will this matter in 5 years from now?
If yes, then do something about the situation.
If no, then let it go."

Manila Drivers Should Take These Driving Lessons

I don't know how to drive and with the present situation of the Manila Streets here the country, particularly in Metro Manila I don't have any plans to drive. Manila drivers are very careless and rude.

I can't imagine how someone could ran over a person at a parking lot like what this woman did at the Ateneo De Manila University. This woman Ma. Theresa Torres, 37, killed a 10 year old boy Julian Carlo Miguel “Amiel” Alcantara, a Grade 4 student at this school while backing-up her vehicle and was on her phone at the same time. She also hit two other vans in that incident.
She said she was a mindful driver but how come she got involved in this ruthless accident crushing a boy with her van.

This is how ruthless drivers can be believing they are the king of the road. I think all drivers in the country should get driving lessons Sydney way and learn the ethics of driving and not just step on the gas. I'm not sure about the test people take here in the country before being allowed to get a drivers license but I do home it is like there in Sydney, Australia where the test covers the general knowledge in driving , road safety, alcohol and drugs, speed limits, defensive driving and traffic signs, among other things.

An Island Cove Adventure With Fellow Bloggers

I had an awesome day last Thursday where I went out of town with 30 other bloggers to step away from the computer for the whole day and take some physical challenge.

Yehey.com took us to the wonderful summer resort of Island Cove in Cavite for the Detour: The Island Cove Adventure and amazing race type of game where we had to brace the scorching summer heat and race for the win.

It was fun and the place was so amazing. The 36 hectares of land was intelligently used to create this wonderful getaway. A Fishing Village, a swimming area, videoke venue, a mini-zoo, paint ball area packed in one place.

I was feeling the wonderful breeze at the Fishing Village in this picture. Below are the 30 other happy bloggers with Gilber Remulla owner of the resort.
