Gratitude is the Best Attitude

Man has the desire of belongingness and acceptance, it is on the top three of the hierarchy of needs (a perfected theory by Abraham Maslow), social needs ranks third of basic human needs following physiological (the need for food, water, shelter, warmth, sex and other body needs) and safety needs (man’s basic instinct to protect his life for survival).

Even without studying human nature, personally we all know that we desire to be recognized, appreciated and accepted either by another individual, a large group or family members. We all yearn for the feeling of being loved and being valued by others.

With the absence of these feeling of belongingness a person becomes susceptible to being sad, lonely, anxious and depressed and depending on the strength of the peer pressure can lead to other destructive behaviors to compensate.

If we want to be happy, we must learn and practice being appreciative of everyone around us. We mush show gratitude to everyone. They don’t need to do anything bombastic for us to recognize them but the mere fact that they are present in our lives is enough to appreciate them.

Haven’t we all heard how one regrets not being able to say “I love you”, or “Thank You” to a loved one while they are still alive. How one cry over the grave of a loved one realizing it’s too late to appreciate them because they are gone wishing they are still alive so they can hear how worthy and valued they are in your lives.

Gratitude is the best attitude. The best way to appreciate something you already have is to imagine yourself without them. Sometimes, we are caught up in the moment; we are always in a rush to do things that we take the simple things for granted.

If you want to turn your life around, try thankfulness.

It will change your life mightily.

You are not only making others feel loved, appreciated and valued but you make them feel happy by acknowledging them. If people are more appreciative I believe this world will be a better place and instead of finding fault we should learn to be more appreciative of small things.

A person who is happy and appreciated will do things very well because he feels good about himself, the fact that he is recognized the more she will do things good and pursue to do better because he knows he will be acknowledge for a job well done.


Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart.
